1. What is Bitizenship Italia?
Bitizenship Italia S.r.l. (“BTC Italia”) is a registered Italian innovative startup (Startup Innovativa), based in Milan.
Its mission is to build institutional-grade digital-asset infrastructure that makes participation in Bitcoin and stablecoin networks secure, transparent, and compliant.
BTC Italia develops and operates proprietary staking- and treasury-management software that allows companies to test, monitor, and optimize blockchain-based financial operations—always within the Italian legal framework.
It also serves as a technology bridge between European financial institutions and blockchain ecosystems, with activities including:
software and protocol development on Bitcoin;
treasury and liquidity-management systems using stablecoins such as USDC;
compliance, risk, and reporting tools for digital-asset operations.
In short, Bitizenship Italia combines software innovation with bitcoin-focused decentralized finance, aligning with the objectives set by Italy’s Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy for Startup Innovativa certification.
2. How does Bitizenship Italia qualify for the Italian “Startup Innovativa” and Investor Visa program?
BTC Italia meets the criteria of a “Startup Innovativa” under Italian Law 221/2012 (converted from D.L. 179/2012) because it:
Is newly incorporated in Italy (less than 5 years old).
Has its registered office in Italy (Milan).
Has annual turnover and payroll limits consistent with early-stage status.
Is not listed on any regulated market.
Has a primary purpose of technological innovation, demonstrated by its R&D and proprietary software for digital asset infrastructure.
Employs highly qualified personnel and invests a material portion of capital in research and development.
Being registered as a Startup Innovativa enables BTC Italia to qualify under Article 26-bis of the Consolidated Immigration Act (T.U. 286/1998) for the Italian Investor Visa (“Startup Visa”), which allows foreign investors to obtain residence by investing in innovative startups.
Investor Visa Qualification Summary
Minimum investment: €250,000 in an Italian Startup Innovativa.
Eligible instrument: equity or quota capital in the startup
Purpose: to support technological and innovative enterprise development in Italy.
Visa validity: initial 2 years, renewable for 3 years upon confirmation that the investment remains active.
